Private Patternmaking Lessons with Andrea Eastin
Private Patternmaking Lessons with Andrea Eastin
Learning how to design and draft your own sewing patterns is the next step in advancing your skill in sewing or fashion design. If you really want to learn how to make your own designs for the garment a reality, pattern making is the technical skill you need to learn.
In my private pattern making lessons, we start by learning how to measure the body to create your first 5 blocks, some call them slopers, or base patterns. These 5 patterns, the front, the back, the sleeve, and the front and back skirt, are used to draft all subsequent designs moving forward. A good base, made to your measurements, will create a better fit. And should you fall in love with pattern making, you will learn how to draft your own custom patterns from the 3 main principles - dart, fullness, and contour.
During your lessons, you will learn how to draft the basic blocks to create your own pattern from sketch to sew, create style lines for a custom design, and how to use your blocks to work with the fit of commercial patterns. Pattern making is a skill set that is acquired with time and effort and practice, so expect an investment of time and self study in addition to your lessons.
