Me Made May 2017 #MMM2017 - Week 3 Round Up!
Welcome back to my Me Made May Series that I'm sharing on my instagram @fairfit! So far, I've shown off a lot of the self sewn wardrobe pieces that I wear everyday, and this week, I'm also going to throw some swimwear and bra sewing into the mix. In this third post in a series for Me Made May 2017, I am sharing a daily look at my self sewn wardrobes and the custom pieces I've made this last year.
ME MADE MAY DAY 14 - CLOTH HABIT HARRIET BRA
Me Made May Day 14 - #bramaking experiment with @clothhabit #harrietbra For this version, I used lightweight vintage polyester scraps to create the set. The elastic, lace, and other fixings are from @tailormadeshop. Even though I was worried the fabric wouldn't work out, it ended up working out fine and I learned more about this bra and how to create variations.
ME MADE MAY DAY 15 - NAMED PATTERNS ANSA BUTTERFLY DRESS
Me Made May Day 15 - @namedclothing #ansadress - I love this pattern, but I insisted on making it out of a fabric I struggled with because - purple! It did not like all the curved seams, and let me just tell you, I had to rip it all out to fix the pookies. Its not as perfect of a sew as I would want, but so what? #progressnotperfection is a real thing! And you can't see it in the photo ;) photo @dovecotephotostudio
ME MADE MAY DAY 16 - FAIR FIT TOP AND SKIRT
Me Made May Day 16 - Fair Fit Crop Top and Skirt. Crazy sewn surface design variations. When I set out to make items for my self sewn wardrobe, I make them in batches, like a capsule collection. It keeps my wardrobe, and my collections, cohesive, and archival. This ensures I can use them over the course of years, not just a season so its more sustainable than sewing one offs. I just gave a webinar on this topic for wardrobe sewers- its here on my blog if you want to check out how I created my clothing collections over the last 10 years.
ME MADE MAY DAY 17 - VICTORY PATTERNS HANNAH DRESS
Me Made May Day 17 - @victorypatterns #hannahdress I made this dress from a calico that I was able to snag after Underground wrapped - that one time where I sewed on a television show and found out how many hours I could sew in one day... The best part was, I got to go home with a lot of fabric to make things with and got to work with the incredible @sewbrooke ! I love my Hannah and people always stop me to ask about it. #memademay #memadeeveryday #mmm17 photo @dovecotephotostudio
ME MADE MAY DAY 18 - FAIR FIT DRESS WITH PATCH REPURPOSE
Me Made May Day 18 - Fair Fit Dress made of hand dyed strips and sewn surface design. I've made a lot of my own clothing and used the Fair Fit Pattern to conceptualize all of my designs. Last year, when I realized it was also an effective design tool to teach wardrobe sewists draping, fit, and sewn customization, I went to work to make it an online course. If you've ever wanted to learn about draping, and how it relates to proportion, and how that relates to better clothes- check out my most recent blog post - photo @dovecotephotostudio
ME MADE MAY DAY 19 - CLOSET CASE PATTERNS SOPHIE SWIMSUIT
Me Made May Day 19 - My first swimsuit ever!! I can't even describe how thrilling it is that since learning #bramaking from @clothhabit at last years camp @workroomsocial that now I can sew my own swimwear and bras. Here's my muslin of my @closetcase.patterns #sophieswimsuit Even though it has a few small things to work out with the cup fit, I'm still going to wear it! This one is a hot tub swimsuit, but I'll make some more versions to wear to the gulf coast this summer
